Hello Black Queens; This is the time - No Excuses

The 13th edition of the Africa Women's Cup of Nations (AWCON) kicks off today here in Ghana. 8 Countries, 2 Groups, 1 Trophy which cannot leave the shores of our Motherland.

The Queens are yet to win an AWCON after numerous attempts, 3 finals (1998, 2002 and 2006) which they lost all to Nigeria. In 2016, the Queens placed 3rd after beating South Africa 1-0 in Yaounde.

This year's tournament which is taking place here in Ghana is a must win. Host and win by all LEGAL means.

Coach Bashiru Hayford and The Queens have no excuse not to win this trophy. When we started playing women football Equatorial Guinea were nowhere to be found but as of now they have 2 trophies.

From Priscilla Mantey - Defender Cynthia Adobea - Captain Elizabeth Addo (Ama Pele) - Striker Jane Ayieyem must have it at the back of their mind to end the dominance of Nigeria who have won the tournament 10 times.

It's in our country and there shouldn't be any excuses for failure. We've lost key players, Priscilla Hagan and Sandra Owusu Ansah through injury but dedication and perseverance should be enough for us.

Coach Bashiru Hayford spoke with ESPN and this what he had to say "In the past, Nigeria completely dominated against us because they could call on players who brought so much experience from playing around the world,"

"Now we are at the level too, able to call on players from different clubs from some different countries.

"That level of exposure makes a real difference and I hope we will see that in our performance in the next two weeks."

This is massive assurance and we all will be rooting for the Queens to deliver.

Ghana will kick off our campaign of Host and Win with Algeria today at the Accra sports Stadium.

Go Ghana; Go Black Queens

This is the time to win an AWCON for us
